Once per season — every three months — customers can have seasonal maintenance and some regular maintenance tasks performed on their homes. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and this seasonal maintenance plan offers at least four ounces of prevention! (That's four pounds of cure if you're counting.)
So, if you sign up for this new quarterly maintenance plan, what can you expect during your first appointment? Here are some of the most important maintenance tasks for fall:
Gutter Cleaning: During the fall, leaves tend to get stuck in the gutters. Clearing these leaves away will help ensure gutters flow freely so you don't get too much ice buildup on the roof in winter. Ice buildup can lead to shingle damage, which can lead to leaks.
Weatherizing the Air Conditioner: It's important to have your air conditioner cleaned and covered to prevent animals from nesting inside of it. A cover also protects the metal components from moisture so they don't corrode.
Window Caulking: Any leaky windows should be caulked so you do not end up with air and water leaks in the winter months. Leaky windows are a waste of energy, and caulk is the easiest solution if you're not able to replace those windows right away.
Winterizing the Plumbing: Most instances of frozen, burst pipes can be prevented with some good seasonal home maintenance. In the fall, outdoor taps should be turned off. Hoses should be disconnected, and irrigation systems should be drained and turned off. If you have any pipes without insulation, adding insulation to those pipes will help keep them from freezing.
Changing the Air Filter: Changing the air filter before you turn the furnace on is an important seasonal home maintenance task for fall. The filter will trap dust that has been collecting in your ducts as they've sat unused.
Cleaning the Chimney: Chimneys should be cleaned every fall before you light a fire in the fireplace. Creosote building must be removed to prevent fires.
Cleaning the Carpet: Fall is your last good chance to have your carpets cleaned. It's harder to clean carpets in the winter when you can't leave your windows open to help the carpets dry.
